For teens: food, movies, games at MP library
The children's branch of Menlo Park's main library will hold the second in what it expects will be a monthly series of "teen nights," inviting teens to the library for food, movies and games on Friday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m.

County will pay David Boesch $270,000-plus
Former Menlo Park city manager David Boesch, the man chosen to replace longtime San Mateo County Manager John Maltbie when he retires at the end of the year, will make $270,234 a year when he picks up the reins on Jan. 1.

Police name woman killed in Sand Hill crash
A two-vehicle fatal collision on the border of Menlo Park and Palo Alto on Thursday morning, Nov. 20, left a 77-year-old woman dead and blocked both eastbound lanes of Sand Hill Road for more than three hours, authorities said.

327 seats OK'd for Ladera shopping center
Enjoying cafe lattes and eating outdoors will continue at Ladera Country Shopper, thanks to the unanimous decision of the San Mateo County Planning Commission on Nov. 12.

Strong-armed robberies not a trend, PD says
Menlo Park has experienced several armed and strong-armed robberies in recent weeks, but the police department does not see the robberies as part of a larger trend, Detective Jeff Keegan of the Menlo Park Police Department said.

Girls' volleyball: Paly, SHP are out; Menlo advances to title match
The season continues for the Menlo School girls' volleyball team, but it has ended for Palo Alto and Sacred Heart Prep following Central Coast Section semifinals losses on Wednesday night. The Menlo School Knights advanced to the CCS Division IV championship match for the fourth consecutive season, defeating Notre Dame-Salinas 25-20, 25-22, 25-20.

$400,000 fee award upheld in Steve Jobs case
Preservationists have won the latest round in the lengthy legal fight over the fate of a historic mansion in Woodside owned by Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple and CEO of Pixar.

M-A canned food drive needs volunteers
The ninth annual canned food drive is on at Menlo-Atherton High School, in which the community pitches in to provide boxes of food to cheer the holidays for families of about 500 M-A students from Menlo Park and East Palo Alto.

Alumni game Wednesday at Woodside High
The young and the youngish will battle it out again on the basketball court Wednesday night, Nov. 26, at Woodside High School when this year's boys and girls varsity teams meet their counterparts among the alumni for the annual contest to see who's better with the round ball.

SHP, Menlo and M-A boys return to CCS water polo finals
The championship game in Central Coast Section Division II boys' water polo is all set, and it should be no surprise to whom the finalists are. Second-seeded Menlo set the table and No. 1 Sacred Heart Prep joined the party following victories by both teams on Tuesday. Joining the championship festivities are the Menlo-Atherton boys, who will defend their Division I title.

Menlo Park woman wins $10,000 in raffle
Suzy Fisk of Menlo Park came away with $10,000 at a raffle as part of a fundraiser sponsored by Community Action Marin, a nonprofit social service organization, on Wednesday, Nov. 12.
