The George Hotel
Huddersfield, United Kingdom
The George Hotel is an elegant Grade II listed Victorian Hotel, (c1851) situated on the main square in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. The hotel was designed by architect William Waller, and the Italianate facade of the building complements its neighbours, the Huddersfield Railway Station. The hotel is famous as the birthplace of Rugby League Football; the meeting that founded it was held here in 1895. The hotel is situated in the town centre, just ten minutes from the M62. Leeds/Bradford and Manchester International Airport are easily accessible. Close by on the edge of the Peak District National Park is Holmfirth, made famous as the location for the series 'The Last of the Summer Wine'. To the north is Bronte country and the famous Bronte parsonage, once the family home.
