In addition to its own gardens, the property is set in rural surroundings, in the valley of S?o Vicente, which is part of the 'Laurissilva' or forest of lauraceas madeirense, today a UNESCO World Heritage Nature Site, because of the rare and the richness of its flora of the Tertiary Period. From the Estalagem you are able to appreciate the magnificent views of the valley, which is set against a contrasting backdrop of huge mountains that end, as if by magic, as they descend towards the deep blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean to the north.
